Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) has stated that 35 railway stations in Ukraine have the status of architectural monuments. To date, three historic railway structures have been destroyed by the Russians.
The following buildings have been damaged as a result of Russian attacks:
- Popasna Railway Station: Built in the late 19th century, it was completely destroyed in 2022.
- Bakhmut Railway Station: Built in the early 20th century, it was almost completely destroyed during the battles for the city in 2022-2023.
- Kostyantynivka Railway Station: Built in the mid-20th century, it was destroyed by Russian missiles on the night of February 24-25, 2024.
As UZ notes, railway stations, especially in frontline regions, are frequent targets for Russian attacks. Therefore, in the event of an air raid alert or other danger, it is important for passengers to follow the instructions of station staff and other authorized services.
