Billion-Dollar Project in the Carpathians: Ukraine Begins Construction of Mountain Resort

A major new mountain resort is under construction in the Carpathian Mountains, marking a significant development for Ukraine’s tourism industry. Over the next 15 years, the project will see the construction of 25 hotels with more than 5,000 rooms, occupying a vast area of 127 hectares. The resort will include ski lifts and slopes, making it a year-round destination for visitors seeking both winter and summer activities.

The construction of this expansive resort is backed by OKKO Group, who previously revealed that the project will cost at least $1.45 billion. To fund this ambitious project, the company plans to cover one-third of the total cost through its own resources and loans, while the remaining funds will be raised from investors.

Situated near the village of Volosyanka in Lviv Oblast, the resort is located about 50 kilometers from the Polish border. The surrounding mountains in this area rise to over 1,200 meters above sea level, offering a prime location for both winter sports enthusiasts and nature lovers.

The project has enlisted a team of experts from Austria to assist with the planning and development of the resort. Their expertise is expected to ensure the highest standards of design and operation, especially given the scope and ambition of the venture.

The head of the construction project, Vasyl Danilyak, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating: “The construction of the first hotel complex is a strategically significant step in realizing the comprehensive concept of an international year-round resort.” This marks the beginning of a project that could transform the region into a major tourist hub.

The Carpathian region has largely remained untouched by the effects of the Russian airstrikes, which have impacted other parts of Ukraine. This relative safety makes the area a compelling option for investment and development, especially in the wake of increased demand for secure travel destinations.

Once completed, the resort is expected to become a key destination for both international tourists and locals, bolstering the Ukrainian economy and attracting visitors from neighboring countries.
