In Transcarpathia, Chateau Chizay winery has created the first orange wine in Ukraine called Furmint Orange. The wine is made from the exclusive Furmint grape variety using a technique that dates back thousands of years. Orange wine is made from white grapes using the same method as red wine. The juice is not separated; instead, it ferments on the skins of the grapes. The wine is then aged on the skins and infused in oak barrels for three months, according to the winemakers.
“The wine absorbs valuable substances from the berries to the maximum. That’s why Orange wine is considered the elixir of youth and health. It is said to have a powerful anti-aging effect,” the company explains.
The “Chateau Chizay” winery was established in 1995 in the Chizay tract in Transcarpathia. They exclusively produce wine from Transcarpathian grapes.
