Chernivtsi International Airport will be named after First Spaceman of Ukraine Leonid Kadeniuk, decided Chernivtsi City Council.
Kadeniuk is the first and so far the only cosmonaut of independent Ukraine, a test pilot, Major General of the Air Force of Ukraine, Hero of Ukraine who has made a space flight. He flew into space as part of the joint Ukrainian-American space mission STS-87 Space Shuttle Columbia, which was held from November 19 to December 5, 1997.
He was born on January 28, 1951 in the village of Klishkivtsi, Khotyn district, Chernivtsi region.
