A court seized seven Ukraine International Airlines aircraft, worth an estimated $40 million, as part of an ongoing investigation into tax evasion.
The Bureau of Economic Security (BES) reported the seizure of three Boeing 737-800s, one Boeing 737-900, and three Embraer 190s. These aircraft are owned by a Cypriot company allegedly linked to two prominent Ukrainian oligarchs, according to operational information provided by BES.
“Detectives uncovered evidence of a prominent airline evading tax payments. The aircraft are registered under a Cypriot company believed to be affiliated with two well-known Ukrainian businessmen,” stated the BES press office.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted under Part 3 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which addresses tax evasion and mandatory payment violations. This case highlights significant efforts by Ukrainian authorities to crack down on financial misconduct.
Details of the Aircraft Ownership
Court records reveal that the aircraft are registered to Brazaline Limited, a Cypriot company, but were operated by Ukraine International Airlines (UIA). Most of the seized aircraft are currently located at Boryspil International Airport and are grounded due to the ongoing closure of Ukrainian airspace.
The investigation remains active as authorities continue to examine the details of the case and the potential involvement of high-profile figures in the tax evasion scheme.
