Danylo Halytskyi International Airport “Lviv” handled 738 thousand passengers in 2016 that is 29,4% more than during 2015 (570,5 thousand passengers). The passenger traffic on domestic flights amounted to 155,2 thousand passengers (21%), and on international – 582,8 thousand passengers (79%).
The most popular destinations by passenger traffic were the following: Istanbul (SAW, IST), Boryspil (KBP), Antalya, Warsaw and Hurghada.
During 2016 the airport handled 8877 flights: 6746 (76%) of them were international and 2131 (24%) – domestic.
Top-5 destinations by the number of operated flights were the following: Istanbul (SAW, IST), Boryspil (KBP), Warsaw, Antalya and Vienna.
Top-5 airlines by the number of passengers handled were UIA, LOT Polish Airlines, Azur Air Ukraine, Pegasus Airlines and Atlasjet Ukraine. The airlines that operated the largest number of flights were UIA, LOT Polish Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa and Pegasus Airlines.
In 2016 the airport in cooperation with three airlines managed to expand route network to/from LWO, launching the following regular flights:
• June 6 – the national airline “Motor Sich” started to operate flights to Kyiv (IEV) with the frequency of 4 times a week;
• June 23 – the airline «SprintAir» launched a new regular flight on the route Radom-Lviv-Radom (Poland) with the frequency of 2 times a week;
• August 17 – the airline «Belavia» started to operate regular flights on the route Minsk-Lviv-Minsk with a frequency of 4 times a week (since November 21 the flights have been operated daily).
On September 16 the national airline “Ukraine International Airlines” launched a new regular flight on the route Vilnius-Lviv-Vilnius. The flight is performed with the frequency of three flights per week. Apart from it, the frequency of regular flights to Istanbul (IST) was increased due to the commencement of regular flights by the airline since April 15.
