Happiness Lessons will be introduced in Ukrainian schools starting from September 2024 as part of the nationwide mental health program “How Are You?”. This initiative was announced by First Lady Olena Zelenska.
The course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for a happy, meaningful, and productive life. It will cover various topics, including:
- Building relationships: Happiness and resilience are inextricably linked to healthy relationships.
- Creativity and self-authorship: The course will empower students to embrace their creativity and take charge of their lives.
- Understanding humanity: Students will explore the concept of being human and what it means to live a fulfilling life.
- Love, compassion, dignity, and freedom: The course will foster values such as love, compassion, dignity, and the importance of freedom.
- Wisdom and personal growth: Students will learn how to cultivate wisdom, find meaning in life, and grow from their experiences.
- Values and life purpose: The course will emphasize the importance of understanding one’s values and finding a sense of purpose in life.
- Emotional intelligence: Students will develop emotional competence, including empathy and emotional intelligence, to understand the emotional needs and feelings of themselves and others.
- Mental health awareness: The course will provide students with the knowledge and tools to care for their mental well-being.
The introduction of “Happiness Lessons” reflects a growing recognition of the importance of mental health education in Ukraine. This program aims to empower young people with the skills and knowledge they need to navigate life’s challenges and build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
