In May, IKEA’s central office made the decision to resume operations in Ukraine. Following the footsteps of Swedish retailer H&M, which reopened in Ukraine in November 2023, and Spanish retailer Inditex, which resumed operations in April 2024, IKEA is now planning its return. Four sources confirmed to Forbes Ukraine that IKEA is set to reopen, with one source mentioning that the reopening was initially expected in June.
At Kyiv’s Blockbuster Mall, where the only IKEA store in Ukraine operated before the full-scale war, officials declined to comment due to a non-disclosure agreement. However, a top manager from a company operating within the same mall as IKEA mentioned that the store is currently undergoing renovations, with signs being removed for maintenance – adjusting the LEDs and updating the fixtures.
It is also known that IKEA has retained the jobs of its employees in Ukraine throughout this period.
