A concept for cycling infrastructure improvement has been developed in Kharkiv, said Deputy Mayor for Urban Development, Architecture and Land Relations Tatiana Ovinnikova.
“We hope that we will be able to create a cycling infrastructure throughout the city. Thus, bikes can be used not only for strolling and sports, but also to get to work.
It is planned to create cycling network that includes bicycle service stations, parking, and rental services. As soon as the relevant department develops the appropriate program, the funding for the project implementation will be provided,” said Tatiana Ovinnikova.
In such a thickly populated, polycentric urban area, the cycling network could easily become a viable commuter link, freeing up capacity on already busy buses and metro.
