The Kyiv City Council has approved a procedure for applying murals to buildings. The document defines the mechanisms for applying, maintaining, preserving, and dismantling monumental paintings in the urban space – Kyiv has become the first Ukrainian city to develop an open procedure for mural registration.
This decision will help harmonize murals with the urban environment and protect public spaces from chaotic graffiti, including on cultural heritage sites. A special commission will be created in Kyiv to coordinate sketches and locations for murals. It will include five representatives of the city administration and six independent experts. When considering projects, the commission will take into account the purpose of creation, concept, relevance, and social impact of future murals, as well as the justification for choosing the location and the presence of approval from the local community.
