Kyiv to Celebrate Christmas and New Year Without Large Gatherings for Third Consecutive Year

This year, Kyiv will once again observe Christmas and New Year’s festivities without mass events, fairs, or entertainment due to the ongoing martial law. Despite the subdued celebrations, a Christmas tree will be installed at Sofiyska Square, set to light up on December 6, 2024.

The installation, funded entirely by private sponsors, will begin on December 2 and remain in place until January 10, 2025. The project is financed by Global-Decor LLC, ensuring no public funds are used.

In addition to the Christmas tree, the site will feature photo zones with QR codes linked to charitable foundations, allowing visitors to contribute to various causes. Two souvenir sales areas will also be set up, along with accessible restroom facilities for people with disabilities.

This marks the third consecutive year Kyiv has opted for low-key holiday celebrations, reflecting the city’s commitment to maintaining a balance between festive spirit and the realities of the current situation.
