Michelin Guide Includes Ukrainian Restaurant for the First Time

For the first time, a Ukrainian restaurant has been featured in the Michelin Guide, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The restaurant, Anelya, is located in Chicago. Its owner and chef, Johnny Clark, was inspired to create this unique dining experience after visiting Kharkiv, where his grandmother was born, in 2023. This visit led him to establish a restaurant dedicated to showcasing traditional and modern Ukrainian cuisine in the United States.

Anelya’s menu features a range of Ukrainian specialties, including duck borscht, cherry and ricotta pierogi with white chocolate, Poltava-style dumplings with chicken and mushrooms, stuffed peppers known as holubtsi, banosh, buckwheat porridge, potato pancakes (deruny), and blood sausage. For dessert, guests can enjoy Kyiv cake, Napoleon with black tea cream, and sweet ryazhenka. The drink menu includes a signature cocktail made with gin and beet kvass.

This inclusion marks a significant recognition of Ukrainian culinary traditions on the global stage.
