On Tuesday, December 19th, a passenger plane took off from Boryspil International Airport, marking a significant event amid the ongoing geopolitical situation in Ukraine.
According to the press service of Boryspil, the largest passenger aircraft in Ukraine, a Boeing 777-300ER, was successfully evacuated and departed for Europe. The Ukrainian airline Skyline Express operated this mighty aircraft.
“It is a pleasure once again to witness the confident takeoff of the mighty steel bird, the Boeing 777-300 of the Ukrainian airline Skyline Express, from Boryspil International Airport,” stated the press release.
The statement further highlighted that around 9 a.m. today, a technical ferry flight of the Boeing 777-300 was conducted from Boryspil to an airport in Europe at the request of the operator, Skyline Express. The flight strictly adhered to the highest standards of aviation safety and security, by directives in place during the declaration of a state of war in Ukraine. Importantly, the aircraft carried neither passengers nor cargo.
The airport’s press service added that since the closure of Ukrainian airspace on February 24, 2022, Skyline Express aircraft had been parked, undergoing continuous technical support and maintenance.
On December 1st, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiha, announced that “Boryspil” will be the first civilian airport to resume flights once the necessary conditions are met.
