The Russians have completely destroyed the authentic world heritage site of Chersonesus Taurica in temporarily occupied Crimea. This was reported by Evelina Kravchenko, Senior Researcher at the Institute of Archaeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, at the Third International Forum of the Crimea Platform Expert Network. A new museum complex has been constructed on the site of the ancient city, and a significant portion of the archaeological finds have been transported to Russian museums.
Chersonesus Taurica is a unique historical monument from the ancient period. The ancient city was built with a system of longitudinal and transverse streets intersecting at right angles, forming blocks. It is the only monument in Crimea that holds global significance. Chersonesus was a classic Greek polis with a democratic system of governance.
At the forum, Andriy Lutsyk, a representative of the Crimea Platform Expert Network, also noted that Russian archaeologists are conducting excavations in the occupied territories and publishing articles in international journals. These publications claim that the archaeological finds were discovered in Russia, thereby misrepresenting and claiming the stolen Ukrainian heritage.
