September Strikes Set to Disrupt Travel in European Airports and Railways

Strikes are a common occurrence in Europe as workers continue to fight for better wages and working conditions. Some strikes are planned months in advance, while others are announced at the last minute, so travelers should always carefully plan their trips across Europe.

Germany

Pilots and crew members of Discover Airlines have voted for an unlimited number of strikes. They are prepared to walk off the job if the Lufthansa subsidiary does not meet their demands regarding pay and working conditions.

This means that Discover flights could face an indefinite number of strikes. The airline operates a fleet of 27 aircraft, serving routes from Frankfurt and Munich across Europe and beyond.

Spain

The strike by security staff at Alicante-Elche Airport in Spain has been extended. Originally scheduled to last five days from August 1 to 4, the strike has continued throughout the month. The next strike dates are August 30 and 31.

Scotland

Over 1,000 ScotRail train drivers are preparing to strike in demand of higher pay. ScotRail operates services between major tourist destinations such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Inverness. The potential strike dates have not yet been announced.

Netherlands

A strike by public transport workers in the Netherlands’ largest cities is planned for September 12. Workers are demanding the right for those in physically demanding jobs to retire earlier.

The strike is expected to disrupt public transport in Amsterdam, The Hague, and Rotterdam.
