The Economist Ranks Kyiv 165th in Global Liveability Index

The Economist has published its ranking of the world’s best and worst cities to live in, placing Kyiv at the 165th position. The ranking includes 173 major cities globally, evaluated based on five criteria: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.

Vienna, Austria, topped the list as the most comfortable city to live in, receiving the highest scores in nearly all categories. The top five also included Copenhagen, Denmark, and Zurich and Geneva in Switzerland, known for their low crime rates and efficient public transport systems.

The top ten cities for liveability also featured Calgary and Vancouver in Canada, Melbourne and Sydney in Australia, Osaka in Japan, and Auckland in New Zealand.

Damascus, Syria, ranked last, maintaining its position as the worst city to live in since 2013. The quality of life indicators also declined for Tel Aviv, Israel, amid the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

In 2023, Kyiv was placed 165th out of 173 positions in The Economist’s liveability ranking. The low ranking is mainly attributed to the destruction of infrastructure caused by the Russian invasion.

Kyiv also ranked 132nd in The Economist’s 2023 list of the world’s most expensive cities to live in.
