Currently, it is recommended to avoid all travel except for essential journeys to the western regions of Ukraine, namely Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, and Chernivtsi. Travel to other regions of Ukraine is advised against due to the ongoing risk to British citizens from Russian attacks across Ukraine, including missile and drone strikes targeting civilian objects, or debris falling. Although shelling occurs less frequently in western regions of Ukraine, the department still recommends refraining from all travel except for essential purposes.
As of today, entry into Ukraine is only possible via ground transportation, as the country’s airspace remains closed. The most convenient option is to fly to one of the airports closest to Ukraine and then continue the journey by train or bus.
