Ukraine is currently conducting a traffic analysis on six major highways to evaluate the feasibility of introducing toll roads, a requirement set by the European Union. According to Serhiy Derkach, Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development, a draft law has already been developed, and agreements with the European Investment Bank (EIB) are in place.
“The issue of toll roads is an EU requirement. We have a draft law on this, and we are working on its implementation. In order to create a quality road, a traffic intensity analysis is required. This analysis is currently being conducted on six roads to launch the toll road mechanism. We are in talks with investors, and agreements have been made with the EIB,” said Derkach.
Following the completion of the traffic analysis, a decision will be made regarding the implementation of toll roads. However, Ukraine is confidently moving forward with the introduction of a toll road system.
