Ukraine has little more than 30 days left of fighting before the weather hinders its counteroffensive, the top-ranking US military officer says.
Kyiv’s counteroffensive, which was launched in the summer and aims to liberate Russian-occupied territory in Ukraine, has so far seen only small gains.
According to CNN, sources indicate that U.S. President Joe Biden is nearing a decision regarding the provision of long-range missiles to Ukraine. Ukraine has been requesting such weaponry since the commencement of Russia’s full-scale invasion. However, the United States has been cautious about any actions that could be perceived as a military threat to Russian territory.
CNN reports that discussions regarding the shipment of Army Tactical Missile Systems, also known as ATACMS, have intensified in recent weeks. An official familiar with the discussions mentioned, “There’s a much higher likelihood of this happening now compared to before. Much higher. I just can’t pinpoint the timing.”
Advancements by Ukrainian forces have also been reported, particularly near Bakhmut and in the western Zaporizhzhia Region. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) officials disclosed that AFU troops have successfully liberated a two-square-kilometer area near Bakhmut in the past week. Additionally, progress has been made near Klishchiivka (6 km southwest of Bakhmut) and Andriivka (9 km southwest of Bakhmut). Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar noted ongoing intense clashes in the Kupyansk axis and confirmed that Ukrainian forces are repelling Russian attacks near Synkivka.
