A new train route connecting Kyiv and Bratislava is set to launch in mid-December, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy. The announcement came following the sixth meeting of the Ukrainian-Slovak Joint Commission, where officials discussed various cross-border initiatives to strengthen ties between the two nations.
The route will involve a transfer at the Chop station, with future plans to extend a European-gauge railway line currently under construction between Uzhhorod and Chop. This project could pave the way for a direct Uzhhorod-Chop-Košice-Bratislava line in the future, making travel between Ukraine and Slovakia more convenient.
During the meeting, representatives from Ukraine and Slovakia also discussed plans to upgrade the Uzhhorod–Vyšné Nemecké border checkpoint, aiming to increase capacity for both freight and passenger traffic. This modernization effort is part of a broader initiative to improve cross-border connectivity and streamline transport and trade between the two countries.
The new Kyiv-Bratislava train route marks a significant step forward in enhancing transport links between Ukraine and Slovakia, providing travelers with more accessible and efficient travel options in the region.
