Ukrainian airlines operate flights on behalf of Moldovan carriers while the Ukrainian airspace remains closed.
At the Chisinau airport, 5 passenger planes from Ukrainian airlines SkyUp and Windrose are stationed. Windrose has stationed its two aircraft in Chisinau – Boeing 737-800 with registration UR-PSF and Boeing 737-900ER UR-PSI. These planes are serving passengers of the Moldovan airline Flyone.
SkyUp has stationed three of its eight airliners at the Moldovan airport. Currently, three Boeing 737-800 aircraft with registration numbers UR-SQB, UR-SQC, and UR-SQF are based in Chisinau, operating flights on behalf of Flyone and HiSky.
Ukrainian airliners are operating under wet leasing arrangements. This involves leasing an aircraft where the airline provides the lessee with the aircraft, along with the crew and technical support, in exchange for a financial fee. The commercial risks related to ticket sales lie with the requesting airline.
This form of leasing allows Ukrainian airlines to sustain their operations and retain the qualifications of their personnel. Eventually, they can swiftly resume flights within Ukraine when it becomes safe.
