Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) has submitted for approval changes to the rules for transporting pets. The new edition was developed by UZ after consultations with experts from the NGO UAnimals, lawyers, the Ministry of Infrastructure, and a study of the experience of partner railways.
Before being approved by the State Regulatory Service, the draft order with all changes will be submitted for public discussion.
The updated rules will provide for the following permissions:
- Use of a backpack as a pet carrier (if it has a waterproof absorbent bottom).
- Temporary stay of small animals up to 45 cm without a carrier – for healthy activity and sleep on the compartment shelf.
- Travel of large dogs over 45 cm in SV and RIC (RIC) wagons, subject to full redemption of the compartment.
- Travel of large dogs in Intercity+, subject to the purchase of all seats placed in a single block in a row.
- Free travel of any service dogs of representatives of the Defense Forces in all types of wagons, subject to the presence of a muzzle and leash.
For passengers who will feel discomfort near animals or have an allergic reaction – Ukrzaliznytsia promises to provide alternative places.
