Ukrzaliznytsia to Increase Prices on International Trains to Poland and Hungary

Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine’s state railway company, announced that it will increase prices on international train tickets to Poland and Hungary beginning February 1, citing increased losses in passenger transportation. The move comes in response to rising costs for materials and energy resources.

According to the company’s press service, ticket prices for trains to Austria and Moldova will remain unchanged.

“Previously, to promote its international routes, Ukrzaliznytsia had agreed on special discounts with neighboring countries’ railways. However, due to the significant rise in the costs of materials and energy, our losses from passenger transportation have grown considerably, reaching UAH 18 billion last year. As a result, the company is now forced to gradually adjust these discounts,” the statement read.

Price Increases for Routes to Poland and Hungary
The reduction of discounts will lead to the following price increases for tickets on routes to Poland:

  • First-class Intercity+ and sleeper cars (SV): Prices will rise by 20–27%.
  • Coupe cars: Prices will increase by 9–27%.

Additionally, fares on popular international routes will see notable changes:

  • Kyiv–Warsaw: A 37% price increase.
  • Kyiv–Budapest: A 17% increase for sleeper cars (SV) and a 21% increase for coupe cars.
