On March 18, Ukrzaliznytsia, the Ukrainian Railways, will initiate the online sale of tickets to Austria and Hungary. Initially, online tickets will be available for the Ukraine-Austria route and vice versa.
Tickets can be purchased through the Ukrzaliznytsia application, and for the direct Kyiv to Vienna train, account verification through the “Diya.Pidpis” service will be required.
“Step by step, we are digitizing our services, making them convenient for customers. After extensive and challenging work, we have successfully reached agreements with Hungary and Austria for online ticket sales for trains. After implementing this project, more of our international routes will be available online, eliminating the need for passengers to visit ticket counters to buy tickets and plan their journeys. As demonstrated by the experience on the Kyiv-Warsaw route, this serves as a significant deterrent to scalpers. We are moving forward,” noted Yevhen Lyashchenko, the CEO of Ukrzaliznytsia.
In the second stage, online tickets will also be available for the Ukraine-Hungary route on trains transiting through Hungary to Austria, such as Kyiv–Budapest–Vienna and Chop–Budapest–Vienna. Direct connections between Ukraine and Hungary (Mukachevo–Debrecen, Mukachevo–Budapest, Chop–Zahony) will be added to the application a bit later.
